As Los Angeles’ first and oldest non-profit dedicated exclusively to
employment services, JVS has helped hundreds of thousands of people.
One thing we place importance on is the difference a job can make to
someone’s self esteem, how it can mean independence to a single
mother on welfare, or turn a vulnerable youth away from the wrong
path. A job can also be an anchor, a place to begin rebuilding for
someone whose life is in turmoil. |
Like Tzigeh
Mesfun, an East African victim of human trafficking, was
held as a virtual slave right here in L.A. When she finally
escaped, she didn’t know where to turn for help. With the
assistance of one of our community partners, she made her way to
JVS. JVS provided more than ESL classes and career counseling,
we provided a compassionate advocate who helped her through
every step of the job search process. Tzigeh recently celebrated
over two years on the job as a valued employee at Loehmann’s and
today she is living the American dream in freedom. Most
important to Tzigeh, she is self-sufficient. Only a job could
make that possible.

It was a job that helped L.A.
native Adam Koffman find stability after Hurricane
Katrina destroyed the new life and circle of friends he had
built in New Orleans. Forced to evacuate, Adam came home to LA
and turned to the Jewish community for support. Referred to JVS
to help rebuild his career, Adam worked intensively with his
career counselor and ultimately found the perfect fit. Today, he
is a financial consultant at UCLA.

| JVS continues to partner
with other agencies and individuals in our community, in the wake of
disasters, cutbacks in funding, and other barriers. The real success
of these partnerships is reflected in the achievements of our
clients and our unique ability to meet their needs as the job market
changes. A recent example is BankWorks, an innovative program
that trains people for careers in the banking industry, and is
funded by a consortium of banks throughout Los Angeles. BankWorks
was the key for Jonnique Rush, a high school drop out with
little
chance of a future career, who
developed the skills and confidence she needed to land a job at
Wells Fargo. Today she is working hard and making plans to continue
her education. Jonnique’s success would not have been possible
without the support of our donors and their ongoing willingness to
help.
We urge you to please help us reach
out to those in need, to partner with others in our community and to
make sure JVS is always here to lend a helping hand. Consider making
a donation to JVS today.
Your contribution is tax-deductible
and 88% of revenue goes directly towards our clients. |
