Jewish Community Services
JVS serves people in the greater Los Angeles area who are looking for work, seeking career advancement or interested in better managing their work environment.
A not-for-profit, non-sectarian organization founded in 1930, the agency offers individuals, businesses, governmental and social service agencies high quality programs related to job seeking, career planning, skills assessment, training and retraining.
JVS' commitment to helping people help themselves is rooted in the Jewish tradition of caring in a way that supports human dignity and respects each individual's capabilities and potential.
Do I have to be Jewish to work with JVS?
No. We welcome and work with thousands of Los Angeles residents of all religions, ages, and walks of life. No matter what your background, we're here to help get you to work.
How does JVS serve the Jewish community?
We have several key services specifically tailored to the needs of the Jewish community.
Our JVS Scholarship Fund JVS administers a scholarship program to provide qualified local students with need-based financial aid. Since its founding in 1972, the JVS Scholarship Fund has awarded $4.0 million to over 3,000 students. Today's recipients are pursuing studies at colleges, universities and vocational schools nationwide.
JVS’ New Linkages Program provides community service internships for Jewish students attending colleges and universities in the Los Angeles area.
What are the Jewish values underlying the work of JVS?
The mission of JVS is rooted in our core values. These values come to us from the Jewish tradition, though their meaning is truly universal.
Through the JVS Scholarship Fund, I have learned giving back iseven better than receiving. This is the only scholarship I have ever received that promotes interaction between those that fund the award and those that receive the award. You realize that everyone that donates does so with loving intention and only wants the best and continued success for the scholarship recipient.
